3 Ciphertext Harta karun Thomas Beale

Ini adalah kode nomor 2, yaitu yang sudah berhasil dipecahkan oleh teman anonim Robert Morris :

Kode Cipher no #2 berisi :

“Aku telah meninggalkannya di county Bedford, sekitar 4 mil dari Buford's, dalam sebuah tempat penggalian atau peti besi, enam kaki di bawah permukaan tanah, barang-barang berikut, milik bersama-sama dari pihak-pihak yang namanya disebutkan dalam (kertas) nomor tiga, dengan ini:

Setoran pertama terdiri dari 1014 pon emas, dan 3812 pon perak, disetorkan pada 1819 November. Yang kedua, pada 1821 Desember, dan terdiri dari 1907 pon emas, dan 1288 perak; juga permata, diperoleh di St. Louis sebagai imbalan untuk menghemat transportasi, dan bernilai 13.000 dolar.

(Harta) Di atas dikemas dengan aman dalam peti besi, dengan penutup besi. Kubahnya secara kasar dilapisi dengan batu, dan bejana-bejana itu bertumpu pada batu padat, dan ditutupi dengan yang lain. Kertas nomor satu menjelaskan lokasi yang tepat dari peti besi, sehingga (seharusnya) tidak ada kesulitan untuk menemukannya.

Sandi kedua dapat didekripsi dengan cukup mudah menggunakan salinan Deklarasi Kemerdekaan Amerika Serikat (meskipun beberapa pengeditan diperlukan)

Untuk memecahkannya, orang tersebut harus menemukan kata yang sesuai dengan nomor (misalnya, nomor pertama adalah 115, dan kata ke-115 dalam Teks Deklarasi Kemerdekaan adalah "dilembagakan" atau “Institited”—apabila diambil satu huruf paling depan yaitu “I” maka akan dapat diartikan sebagai “Aku”

Beale menggunakan versi Deklarasi Kemerdekaan Amerika Serikat yang sedikit berbeda dari aslinya, dan sengaja membuat kesalahan dalam penomorannya. Untuk mengekstrak pesan tersembunyi, 5 modifikasi berikut harus diterapkan pada teks asli.

• setelah kata Nomor 154 ("Institue") dan sebelum kata Nomor 157 ("laying") satu kata harus ditambahkan. Si pemecah sandi menangani ini dengan menyisipkan "a" sebelum kata "New Government". [6]
• setelah kata Nomor 240 ("Invariably") dan sebelum kata Nomor 246 ("design") satu kata harus dihilangkan.  
• setelah kata Nomor 467 ("houses") dan sebelum kata Nomor 495 ("be") sepuluh kata harus dihilangkan.
• setelah kata Nomor 630 ("eat") dan sebelum kata Nomor 654 ("to") satu kata harus dihilangkan.
• setelah kata 677 ("foreign") dan sebelum kata 819 ("valuable") satu kata harus dihilangkan.

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
